Capacity Ireland’s inaugural Breaking the Patterns exhibition was held at the distinguished Cowshed Gallery at Farmleigh on 22nd February 2025.

The exhibition showcased select pieces from three-month residencies that were held in Seville and Lisbon in 2024, featuring both Capacity Ireland artists and a curated selection of local emerging artists from these culturally rich cities. It was an inspiring afternoon that highlighted innovative work by emerging visual artists who had reimagined their practice through international residency experiences.

The Breaking the Patterns project culminated in two national exhibitions in Ireland, celebrating the creative outcomes of our international residencies. Our 2nd exhibition was at at GOMA Art Gallery in Waterford.

These exhibitions brought together a collective of Irish and international emerging visual artists working across a range of mediums—including film, sculpture, performance, and painting. Each artist contributed a unique perspective on the theme, challenging conventional boundaries and exploring new creative pathways.

With both Irish and international voices represented, this exhibition offered a rare opportunity to engage with the dynamic creative expressions shaping today’s visual arts landscape. It underscores the vital role of cultural and creative exchange in fostering new artistic visions and broadening perspectives across borders.
